Health Policy Expert: EPA Should Not Abandon Regulations on Toxic Chemicals

May 16, 2025

As seen in Long Island Press, Jessica Varghese, Ph.D., associate professor of nursing, was one of several local experts and community activists who participated in a press conference calling on New York’s congressional delegation to oppose the EPA’s rollback of federal regulations limiting toxic chemicals, such as PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl compounds), in the Long Island water supply.

Similar coverage also appeared in the Long Island Advocate, in which Varghese noted that proposed rollbacks on PFAS regulations may weaken limits on other harmful chemicals, such as 1,4-dioxane, TCE (trichloroethylene), and PCE (perchloroethylene).
