Whitney Players Staged Drama in 1970s at NYIT

September 4, 2015

NYIT's tradition of offering diverse extracurricular activities dates back many decades. For example, to kick off the 1972 fall semester The Campus Slate student newspaper published a roundup of clubs, sports, fraternities and sororities, and creative groups. Notable among them were the Whitney Players. Following is an excerpt from the newspaper's Sept. 5, 1972 edition:

Whitney Players, the college drama club, is another example of how campus activities defy stereotypes. The players produced two shows last year. Both applied "multimedia" techniques which made use of the technical skills of students. Last semester's production of The Grouch, an ancient Greek play, was held outdoors. The whole script was rewritten to modernize the action and characters.
