NYIT Offers Degrees with Top Chinese Media University

September 14, 2015

Continuing its leadership in providing American-style higher education in China, NYIT has launched a Ministry of Education in China-approved media technology center with the prestigious Communication University of China (CUC) in Beijing. This fall, more than 150 students have entered dual-degree graduate and undergraduate programs.

Starting with an inauguration ceremony this week, NYIT will administer undergraduate and graduate degrees in marketing, advertising and public relations, digital film and television production, computer graphics/animation, graphic design, and communication arts.

Students will be taught first by Beijing-based NYIT and CUC faculty members and then have the option to complete their studies in New York.

The NYIT-CUC collaboration, at the heart of the first China-foreign, cooperatively-run institution in media approved by the Ministry of Education, is called the Faculty of International Media of Communication University of China, or the ICUC.

The newly outfitted campus includes NYIT-designed digital laboratories and a distance-learning, video-presence classroom connected to NYIT's New York campuses. NYIT students in Beijing will be able to remotely operate equipment in NYIT's high-tech Home for Innovation, Visualization, and Exploration (HIVE) Center in New York with its motion capture, 3-D, and visualization tools. The interconnectivity of the New York and Beijing programs enables students and faculty members to collaborate on creative projects and reviews.

The NYIT-CUC programs are highly selective, and students chosen from throughout China had to meet both NYIT and CUC admissions standards, including the ability to take their courses in English. The curriculum and requirements of each program are identical to NYIT courses and programs offered in New York.

NYIT President Edward Guiliano, Ph.D., stated: "We are proud that NYIT and CUC have partnered to offer these dual-degree programs to students in Beijing. CUC is China's top-ranked media university, and they chose us as a partner because of our demonstrated excellence in communication arts, graphic design, and other technology-infused creative fields. NYIT's prime New York location, network of business and alumni contacts in the field, and longstanding experience in China are tremendous advantages for students starting their studies in Beijing."
