News Brief: Physical Therapy Graduates Break NYIT Record, Score Big

August 13, 2018

The 2018 graduates of the physical therapy (D.P.T.) program in NYIT School of Health Professions made history just a few months after commencement, achieving NYIT’s highest first-time pass rate ever on the national licensing exam. Of the 39 Class of 2018 D.P.T. graduates taking the test in July, 37 passed the National Physical Therapy Exam (NPTE) administered by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy. The 94.9 percent first-time pass rate not only surpasses the NYIT pass rate record but also exceeds the 92.3 percent national average for the July 2018 test.

“The success of our students speaks to the level of their determination and work ethic, as well as to the dedication and expertise of our faculty,” says Karen Friel, D.H.S., professor and chair of the Department of Physical Therapy. “Particularly for the Class of 2018, their signature strengths of collaboration and cohesiveness as a cohort helped them meet our high expectations. Our students’ success is everyone’s success, and we are anxious to see them go out and do great things in the field.”
