Care Bears: Baseball Team Pays a Visit to Raleigh Boys Club

The NYIT baseball team took a break from preparations for its College World Series opener on Friday, May 31. And it’s debatable whether the Bears or their hosts had more fun.
Wearing bright orange T-shirts reading, “Make A Difference,” NYIT student-athletes visited the Raleigh Boys Club. During the hour-long visit, the Bears gave batting and throwing lessons, played basketball in the gym, and also played pool, ping pong, and foosball.
The Raleigh Boys Club members were invited to attend the NYIT College World Series game against top-seeded Colorado Mesa on June 1 in Cary, N.C.
“It was great to spend some time away from the field and play different games with the boys,” said NYIT corner infielder Nick Tedesco, who addressed the group before the activities began. “They go to the facility a lot. So to give them a chance to interact with new people and play in a different way was awesome. Everyone enjoyed it.”
The Bears raised an NYIT flag at the USA Baseball National Training Complex on Friday morning, then practiced at the complex. After the Raleigh Boys Club visit, they also were scheduled to attend a banquet on Friday night with all eight teams.
The Bears fell to Costa Mesa on Saturday, June 1, 11-4. They will play fourth-seeded Ashland in an elimination game on June 3 at 3 p.m.
