Duane Bailey, director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation, was recognized as one of the Eastern College Athletic Conference’s (ECAC) Division II Administrators of the Year. Bailey accepted the award at the 2016 Honors Dinner held at the Matrix Conference & Banquet Center in Danbury, Conn., in September.

“I would like to thank the ECAC for recognizing the tremendous accomplishments of NYIT’s student-athletes and coaches. I am truly honored to accept this award on their behalf,” he said.

The ECAC Awards Program recognizes the achievements of student-athletes, administrators, and others who represented the conference with distinction in the 2015–2016 academic year.

Bailey was honored for his undertakings, including the launch of the Bears Athletic Fund, which has helped fund more than five capital projects; the negotiation of a three-year all-sport apparel contract with Under Armour; his oversight of the athletics site enhancement, currently underway; and the launch of the Bears Sports Network, an online site where people can livestream home games. Under his leadership, student-athletes earned a cumulative departmental GPA of 3.2 in the 2015-2016 academic year; more than 60 percent of NYIT student-athletes achieved this average or higher.

“Student-athletes, coaches, and staff are at the heart of our success story and it has been a privilege to serve as their athletic director during this time of unprecedented growth and success,” Bailey said.
