Apply for NYIT's Alternative Spring Break Program

October 23, 2015

Are you interested in voluntourism and making a difference in the lives of people around the world? If so, apply for NYIT's Alternative Spring Break Program by Friday, Oct. 30, to be part of a team volunteering its time and skills to help people in Rivas, Nicaragua. There are 10 slots open to NYIT students and two slots for faculty or staff members.

"Participants will be working with Campo Alegria ("Camp of Good Cheer") to run three day camps for underserved children in Nicaragua, as well as work with community members to renovate public spaces and address water accessibility and filtration issues in the region," says Rosalia Davi, assistant director of experiential education, who coordinates the program.

Nicaragua is the poorest country in Central America and the second poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, according to the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency's World Factbook. The upcoming journey will continue projects started by participants of the 2015 Alternative Spring Break Program, also in Nicaragua.
