DEI in STEM Fields: Where Do We Go From Here?

April 18, 2023
12:45 PM – 2:00 PM

16 W. 61st St., 11th floor auditorium
New York, NY

Join Phil Eta Sigma and guest speaker Sophia Domokos, Ph.D., assistant professor of physics, for an open forum on diversity in STEM.

We’ll discuss why diversity in STEM is so important, the progress that has been made over the past several decades, and what work still remains to be done. We’ll examine what we can do as individuals to help foster diversity in STEM—how we can serve as allies to friends and colleagues from historically unrepresented groups and how those of us who are members of those groups can cope with the challenges we still face in STEM fields.

Lunch will be provided.

ABOUT OUR SPEAKER

Sophia Domokos, Ph.D., has been an assistant professor of physics at New York Tech since 2018, working on an area of theoretical physics called “string theory.” She received her bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and her Ph.D. from the University of Chicago, and pursued postdoctoral research at Israel’s Weizmann Institute of Science and at NYU.

In addition to her scientific work, Dr. Domokos is passionate about science communication, and about helping students from historically underrepresented groups find their way in scientific careers.
