Thirteen NYIT students traveled to Paris to study documentary filmmaking and integrated marketing in the city known for its grand boulevards, mansard roofs, and Beaux-Arts building façades, so recognizable in films from The Red Balloon to Amélie, and home to advertising heavyweights such as the Publicis Groupe. The French school L'école des nouveaux métiers de la communication (also known as EFAP) hosted the group during the exchange program from June 1 to July 3.
Their summer in the City of Light combined for-credit classroom instruction, on-site visits to creative agencies and major corporations, and cultural activities at the Tour Montparnasse, the Louvre Museum, the Foundation Louis-Vuitton, and Euro Disney. All instruction was in English. NYIT students also participated in outings with their international peers studying through ERASMUS, a European student exchange program.
NYIT has partnered with EFAP since 2000 to bring European students to its New York campuses for a semester or a year. The summer 2015 exchange program was the first time New York-based NYIT students studied in the French capital.
Undergraduate and graduate students from the College of Arts and Sciences and the schools of Management and Architecture and Design participated in the program and earned three to six credits for their coursework, depending on their selections. NYIT Professor Felisa Kaplan taught an integrated marketing communication course as part of the program. The program was designed and implemented by Patricia Chaban, director of NYIT's EFAP exchange program and adjunct instructor of French, and will be offered again in summer 2016.
