Debra A. Vogel Student Advancement Scholarship

The Debra A. Vogel Student Advancement Scholarship is designed to inspire New York Tech students to embrace their entrepreneurial spirit and become engaged in the global business community as they continue their studies. The scholarship provides a foundation of financial assistance as an incentive to encourage students to become future international industry leaders through their innovation, ideas, and passion.

The scholarships, which range from $250 to $1,500 per year, are open to all full- and part-time New York Tech undergraduate and graduate students. Scholarships will be awarded bi-annually, for the fall and spring semesters. A minimum of one to a maximum of ten scholarship awards will be awarded each year.

NOTE: Students may apply in any one or more of the following categories, using a single application form.

Debra A. Vogel Entrepreneurial Business Venture Idea Scholarship

To apply:

  • Complete the required application.
  • Include a 350-500 word essay (double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman or Arial font) that describes and articulates in detail a potential entrepreneurial business venture idea that you wish to develop into an actual business model. Your idea can pertain to any category of business venture: small business, sole proprietor, scalable startup, large company, or social entrepreneur.
    • Share your innovation, the business opportunity it addresses, and why you are passionate about your idea. Address the viability of your venture, including an assessment of market competition and potential profitability.
    • Describe how your experience in developing this potential venture has affected your leadership skills and enthusiasm—and how it has been influenced by your personal and educational background.
    • Be sure to articulate all potential outcomes and evidence of your role in creating your Entrepreneurial Business Venture Idea.
  • DEADLINE: The application, including the required essay and all support materials, must be submitted by July 15.

Debra A. Vogel Assistance in Start-Up Business Scholarship

To apply:

  • Complete the required application.
  • Include a 350-500 word essay (double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman or Arial font) that articulates and demonstrates how you have helped a start-up company become an operating business that is economically and logistically sustainable for the future.
    • Chart the progress of this business from your first engagement to the present day, focusing on how your skillsets, business idea(s), and leadership have helped the company successfully establish itself and meet its business obligations and challenges.
    • Describe how your experience in developing this potential venture has affected your leadership skills and enthusiasm. Be sure to articulate all outcomes and evidence of your role in supporting the start-up business.
  • DEADLINE: The application, including the required essay and all support materials, must be submitted by July 15.

Debra A. Vogel Turnaround Management Scholarship

Turnaround management is a process dedicated to corporate and business renewal. It uses analysis and planning to save troubled companies and returns them to solvency by identifying the reasons for failing performance in the market and rectifying them.

To apply:

  • Complete the required application.
  • Include a 350-500 word essay (double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman or Arial font) that explains how your skills, ideas, motivation, and/or innovativeness have helped turn a faltering business into a viable and economically feasible business operation. 350-500 word essay, double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman or Arial font, explaining:
    • Explain how your skills, ideas, motivation, and/or innovativeness have helped turn a faltering business into a viable and economically feasible business operation. Be sure to highlight possible reasons for its failing business performance and how you have assisted in rectifying these issues and concerns.
    • If your efforts to help this business were not as successful as anticipated, perform a post-mortem analysis indicating your thoughts as to why you fell short, and what could’ve been done differently to make the effort more successful.
    • Describe how your experience in developing this potential venture has affected your leadership skills and enthusiasm. Be sure to articulate all outcomes and evidence of your role in supporting the turnaround management of this business
  • DEADLINE: The application, including the required essay and all support materials, must be submitted by July 15.

Requirements

  • All applicants must be full- or part-time undergraduate or graduate students at New York Tech.
  • Students can apply for more than one scholarship at a time and are eligible to receive more than one scholarship per year.
  • All applicants must complete an application form indicating which scholarships they are applying for and including:
    • A separate essay of 350-500 words, double-spaced, in 12-point Times New Roman or Arial font for each scholarship entry, including, as appropriate:
      • Dates and timelines for your project.
      • Any literature supporting your project.
      • Contact information for any organization, association, or institution associates with your project.
  • Applicants will be judged based on demonstrated business leadership and innovation, outcome and evidence of the project, and presentation of essay and support literature.
  • All applications, essays, and support materials must be submitted by July 15.
  • Winners will be notified by August 23.
  • Scholarship(s) must be applied to tuition and mandatory college fees only.
  • Scholarship recipients will be required to submit a Thank You Letter to the Debra A. Vogel Student Advancement Program.
