Top 3 Core Exercises to Improve Stability

October 15, 2026

Associate Professor of Physical Therapy Mark Gugliotti, D.P.T., was featured in a Verywell Health article about exercises to improve core stability. As a strong core helps with performing daily activities without getting injured, Gugliotti shared ways to improve core strength without a gym membership.

Gugliotti explained, “You spend a lot of time reaching overhead, leaning forward, and picking things up from the floor, but people fail to realize how important trunk, or core, stability is for those motions. A strong center means you can extend your arms away from your body to perform your regular, everyday tasks.”

Guigliotti recommends exercises like the pull-and-press, bird dog, and an isometric sit-up that can be done at home with a resistance band or yoga block. For each exercise, start with an easy goal and progress up from there.
