President Balentine Pens Op-ed in Major News Outlet
A Wall Street Journal op-ed by President Jerry Balentine, D.O., contends that universities’ fear of artificial intelligence (AI) is misplaced, and excommunicating it from the classroom will only produce graduates who are unprepared for the future. Instead, as he explains, universities must teach their students to “learn how to learn,” and adapt to disruptive technologies like AI. Noting that New York Tech students learn how to use AI ethically and effectively, he calls on more universities to offer AI-integrated degrees and courses, as well as support for mid-career professionals and employers in AI adaptation, citing New York Tech’s AI training for alumni.
“We don’t know what AI will look like a decade from now any more than professors decades ago knew what computers would become. But if we don’t start preparing students now, they’ll be left behind—and so will the institutions that failed them,” writes President Balentine.
