Supply Chain Expert: Tariffs Will Impact Holiday Prices

October 28, 2025

Professor of Supply Chain and Business Analytics Shaya Sheikh, Ph.D., was quoted in an AARP.com article about the impact of tariffs on holiday items. Sheikh informs readers with a sweet tooth that they should prepare for their favorite treats to cost more this year.

“Candy prices have increased about 8 to 10 percent, mainly due to record cocoa shortages this year, with chocolate makers passing these costs on to shoppers,” said Sheikh. Among other points, he also told AARP that tariffs have added roughly 20 percent to the cost of most items imported from China, with holiday decor and some apparel expected to be hit the hardest.
