Welcome to Graduation 2021! Congratulations, Graduates!

New York Institute of Technology’s Vancouver Graduation Ceremony will take place on Monday, November 15, 2021 at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre at 1:00pm.

We look forward to celebrating your accomplishments with family and friends! Here is a list of items that must be completed before the ceremony:

Important 2021 Graduation Deadlines:

  • Register to graduate by: August 30, 2021
  • Reserve regalia by: October 29, 2021
  • Apply to be this year’s Student Speaker by: November 1, 2021
  • Reserve tickets by: November 14, 2021

Academic Regalia

Academic Regalia (Caps and Gowns)

Gown registration is now closed. If you have not yet ordered your gown there will be gowns available at the venue to rent. Please provide the following information gown on the form below. If you have not reserved a gown, it is recommended that you arrive to the Queen Elizabeth Theatre at 10:30 am in order to pay the $60 CAD rental fee to obtain a gown.

All participating graduates must wear academic regalia (cap and gown).

Please be reminded that Cap and gowns will be distributed from 10am - 12pm the Queen Elizabeth Theatre on the day of graduation on Monday, November 15. Do not come to Downtown campus to obtain your gowns.

New York Institute of Technology provides regalia to graduating students at a cost of $60 per person. To participate in the graduation ceremony, you are required to wear New York Institute of Technology’s academic regalia.

Please note that if you have already paid for your gown rentals in 2020, you will still need to pay the fees this year. We will be contacting you to refund your 2020 payment soon.

Before November 1

Enter Student Speaker Contest

We are looking for an outstanding student speakers who can represent the New York Tech student experience of the Classes of 2019, 2020, and 2021. This is a great honour and an opportunity to share your story.

Candidates must:

  • Be receiving a graduate degree from Fall 2019 through Summer 2021.
  • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to campus involvement with a verifiable list of extracurricular and volunteer activities, and leadership positions.
  • Deliver a pre-recorded one-minute sample speech to the selection committee that will be judged on:
    1. Content (i.e., unique perspective, motivational aspects, relevant quotations, and anecdotes.)
    2. Presentation style and speech delivery.

Student Speaker receives:

  • Four tickets to Student Speaker’s respective ceremony.
  • Platform party processional and seating.
  • Recognition in graduation program.

Process and deadlines: Phase I: Written Application Materials (Due: November 1 by 9 a.m.)

  • Completed application with current resume.
  • Typed draft of the proposed speech.
  • Video recording of you reading your speech
  • Typed response to the following question: Why do you want to be the Student Speaker?

Phase II: Interviews (late October)

  • The selection committee reviews all applications, then selects and interviews semifinalists.

Phase III: Selection (late October / Early November)

  • All semifinalists and the winner will be contacted by the selection committee.

Ordering Tickets

Each eligible candidate for graduation will be able to order graduation tickets online. If you did not file with the Office of the Registrar, you cannot reserve tickets. Please see Filing for Graduation for further details.

Admission to the ceremony is by ticket only. A ticket grants access to the graduation ceremony. Due to limited seating and current PHO restrictions, each student receives a maximum of two guest tickets. All guests, including children, require a ticket. The graduating student does not require a ticket. Additional tickets are not available at this time.

Please note that physical tickets will not be distributed in advance. Your guests must bring either a print-out of their e-ticket, or have their e-ticket accessible on their phone.

Proof of vaccination will be required for all guests attending the ceremony (this does not include graduating students). Provincial health regulations will be in place.

Schedule of Events

10 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Graduation regalia is distributed to graduates.

12 p.m.

Students begin to line up.

12 p.m.

Queen Elizabeth Theatre opens for guest seating.

1 p.m.

Student processional begins.

1 p.m.

1:30 p.m.

Graduation ceremony begins.

3:30 p.m.

Graduation ceremony complete.

Transportation and Parking

The entrance to the Queen Elizabeth Theatre is located at 630 Hamilton Street, Vancouver. The main crossroads are Hamilton Street and West Georgia Street.

Public Transportation

The Translink Skytrain and Canada Line are a convenient choice of transportation for the Queen Elizabeth Theatre:

  • Stadium-Chinatown SkyTrain station: on Dunsmuir Street one block east of the theatre
  • Vancouver City Centre Canada Line station: on West Georgia Street five blocks west of the theatre

Parking at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre

Parking is available at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre parkade, beneath the theatre itself. The entrance is off of Cambie Street between West Georgia and Dunsmuir Streets. Parking is limited, so we recommend arriving early.

Parking is also available at Larwill Park, which is across the street from the theatre between West Georgia Street and Dunsmuir Street. The entrance is off of Cambie Street.

Underground parking is also available at the Vancouver Public Library, between West Georgia and Robson Street. The entrance is off Hamilton Street.

Guests are encouraged to arrive early to ensure ample time for parking prior to the ceremony start. Doors to the theatre will open at 10:30 a.m.

Disability and Special Assistance

We are pleased to provide assistance to guests with special needs. Graduation staff will be available to direct and assist people with disabilities.

If you are a student who has special assistance needs, hearing or visual impairment, please notify us at by November 1.

Photos During the Event

Our photographer will be taking photos of our graduates during:

  • Graduate lineup beginning at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
  • Processional into main ceremony.
  • Graduation ceremony on the stage as graduates receive their diploma folder.
