CoECS Conversation: Energy Resources/Management

October 26, 2020
7:00 PM – 8:00 PM

NYIT College of Engineering and Computing Sciences welcomes Greg Sachs, PE, chief operations officer of EmPower Solar, who will present on “The State of Distributed Energy Resource (DER) Interconnections & Processes in the PSEG-Long Island Service Area.”

This presentation will detail the current state of DER on Long Island as well as the technical challenges and political/organizational obstacles. Given the current growth in solar roofs, home batteries, and electric vehicles, the local electric grid must be prepared to incorporate these options.

He is the elected chairman of the PSEG-LI Interconnection Working Group and core member of the New York State Interconnection Technical Working Group, both dedicated to advancing technical policy enabling the interconnection of distributed energy into the electricity grid.

Sachs was a founding member of the Long Island Solar & Storage Alliance. He graduated from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), co-founded the USMMA Alternative Power Program, and taught electrical engineering as a tenure- track professor.
