Join us for the New York Tech Animation and Game Festival on May 18! This year’s festival will feature screenings of animations, motion graphic pieces, films, and games created by students in Digital Art and Design of the School of Architecture & Design. Submissions are judged by industry guests from the animation/film and game industry with cash prizes awarded to the winners.

This year's event will be celebrated in-person, with catering served at the end. There will also be a concurrent Zoom livestream of the ceremony, open to all New York Tech students, staff, faculty, friends and family. Details below.

Submit Your Work

Submission Criteria:

10th Annual Animation and Game Festival Poster

  • File size/Resolution: HD 1920 X 1080
  • Format output/Codec: H.264 or MPG4
  • Animation/Films length: No longer than five minutes
  • Game Submission Guidelines:
    No longer than seven minutes of a documentary style video format of 1920 X 1080 of H.264 codec output. Refer to the points below on what info to include. This timing of the points below is an estimation/approximation, and you can distribute as needed between the points. It can be much shorter if you think so, but it should not exceed seven minutes:
    1. Title (4 sec)
    2. Goals and objectives. (2 to 3 sentences maximum - 30 sec)
    3. Highlight storytelling, artistic excellence, and innovation. Talk about its narrative, world building, cross-medium projects and unique use of technology. (2 min)
    4. Rules and/or Instructions and Interactions, by demonstrating it, if possible. (2 Min)
    5. Conflict (and/or competition, challenge, opposition). (1 minute)
    6. Outcomes and Feedback. (1 min)
    7. Credits (5 sec)

Judges

Mark Reynolds

Mark Reynolds, Independent Animator and Visual Effects Artist


Mark Reynolds is a New York City-based animator and visual effects artist who has created work for screens large, small, virtual, and live-projected. His recent work can be seen in HBO’s documentary The Lady and the Dale, and he is currently serving as a lead compositor for the animated feature documentary, The Conspiracy. He is also the perpetrator behind the odd animated short film “Baiser (Kiss)” playing in various film festivals around the world. In addition to his freelance work, he teaches at the New York Film Academy and serves as Secretary for the New York City chapter of ACM SIGGRAPH.


Natalie Asport

Natalie Asport, Video Game Developer


Natalie Asport is a video game developer, an artist, a writer, and educator living in New York City. She currently works at NetherRealm Studios as a Senior Props Artist. She has previously worked at Avalanche Studios as an Environment Artist and a Vehicles and Weapons Artist. Some of her AAA titles include Just Cause 3, Just Cause 4, and RAGE 2.

Natalie has a background in traditional arts and received a B.S. in Computer Science for Computer Animation at Full Sail University. She has also studied at Ringling College and Gnomon School for Graphic Design and VFX. She started out as a 3D artist for Visuals for Law creating CG medical models of the human anatomy to be used in court cases. She speaks at various game developer events, including Playcrafting’s Women In Games and NYC ACM SIGGRAPH to discuss industry related topics and how to break into games. She co-authored Beginning 3D Game Assets Development Pipeline Book (Apress, 2022) and has worked on an array of projects as a freelance VFX designer and creative director. She actively volunteers with animal rights organizations around NYC and her artwork has been displayed at Van Der Plas Gallery in Lower East Side, Manhattan and at the Orlando Museum of Art.


Sean Donnelly

Sean Donnelly, Animation Director


Sean Donnelly founded the animation company, Awesome + modest, which specializes in mixed media animation for documentaries, music videos and commercials. They recently did all the animation for the Duplass Brother's HBO miniseries, The Lady and the Dale, and he won a Clio award for the promo he directed for it. Sean has directed music videos and commercials for clients such as Scion, Netflix, Bo Burnham, The Spinto Band, Volbeat, Kirk Hammett, The Mountain Goats, and many more.

Sean co-created and co-showran the Comedy Central series Jeff & Some Aliens. The show starred Brett Gelman, Malcolm McDowell, Christian Slater, Keegan Michael Key, Pamela Adlon, Tim Heidecker, and Alicia Silverstone. Sean also worked as a writer and director on the Comedy Central show TripTank, and is currently writing a feature length script for Tri-Star that is being produced by Andy Samburg's company Party Over Here.

While still in film school, he made the feature documentary I Think We're Alone Now which recently came in at #11 on Buzzfeed's "22 docs that must be seen to be believed." The film is about to be re-released on Blu Ray by Vinegar Syndrome.


Travis Healy

Travis Healy, Senior World Designer


Senior World Designer currently working for Lightspeed LA, a Tencent game studio. Ive been working in the games industry now for 12+ years. Ive worked at Turbine Inc, Warner Brothers, Avalanche Studios, a couple indie studios and am now at Lightspeed. I started my career as a Quality Assurance Analyst and then moved onto design. While World design has been my primary focus and passion, Ive also delved into other areas of design including; Level design, combat design and character design.
