Andrew Hofstrand's research is focused on analytical and computational aspects of nonlinear dynamics in physical systems, particularly related to the study of wave propagation in the optical sciences. He joined New York Tech in 2022, after completing a postdoctoral research position jointly at Columbia University and the Graduate Center CUNY, funded by the Simons Foundation. He completed his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics at the University of Arizona, supported by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research. In addition to mathematics, Hofstrand pursued graduate studies at the Manhattan School of Music in classical piano performance and graduated with bachelor's degrees in physics, astronomy, and music from the University of Iowa.
