As Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid at New York Institute of Technology, Karen Vahey provides strategic leadership to meet all undergraduate, graduate and international enrollment and revenue goals at New York Tech's two New York campuses, and supports the enrollment efforts of New York Tech's global campuses. Prior to her arrival at New York Tech in 2014, she held leadership roles within enrollment management at Fordham University, Hofstra University School of Law, St. John's University (NY), and Sarah Lawrence College. Karen's areas of expertise include strategic enrollment management, international enrollment management, financial aid leveraging, and communication planning.
Dean Vahey received her B.A. in English and MSEd from Fordham University and her Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Higher Education Management from the University of Pennsylvania.
Recent Projects and Research
- Vahey has presented on topics ranging from tuition pricing and discounting and the return on college investment to trends in international student enrollment at EDUCASE, NACAC, and AACRAO SEM, among other conferences and events. Her research on tuition resets has been featured in the Chronicle of Higher Education and in 2020's "The College Stress Test: Tracking Institutional Futures Across a Crowded Market."
