Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging at NYITCOM

Welcome to the Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging at NYITCOM. Established in October 2022, our office is dedicated to ensuring that all members of the New York Tech community feel recognized, welcomed, and valued.

Our Mission

NYITCOM is committed to ensuring that diversity, sense of belonging, mutual respect, and collaboration are among the defining factors of every faculty, staff, and student experience regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, ability status, etc. NYITCOM DEIB Office exists to inventory, assess, recommend, and move to action on opportunities for NYITCOM to become a more inclusive environment. This includes, but is not limited to policy, procedures, and programming. The Office will uphold New York Tech’s principles of equity and inclusion, while respecting the unique perspectives of individuals from various backgrounds and with ultimate goals for a richer and healthier NYITCOM.

Our Vision

In line with the New York Tech Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB), the NYITCOM Office of DEIB vision is to cultivate a strong and diverse community where we celebrate differences, ideas, and individuals, advocate for access and acceptance with a welcoming and meaningful sense of belonging, and a brave atmosphere of growth, respect, and community—where all can reach their full potential in preparation for work with healthcare and other fields.

Our Goals

  • Community Partnerships: We seek to foster strong partnerships with community organizations that strengthen access, opportunity, learning and growth for the NYITCOM community.

  • Pre-College Outreach and Access: We will build and strengthen relationships with local educational partners with a focus on healthcare pipeline programs for underserved and rural communities.

  • Retention and Success: We will facilitate equitable opportunities for students, faculty, and staff from underserved/minoritized backgrounds.

  • Inform: We will inform the NYITCOM about the importance of DEIB and its role in the overall NYITCOM culture of inclusion and strategic plan.

  • Culture and Climate: We will help create brave spaces to promote campus community, nurture campus spaces that reflect an ever-evolving world, and promote a learning environment to encourage self-reflection with a DEIB lens.
