Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Committees at NYITCOM

As part of the mission of the Office of the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging, we have created several committees dedicated to enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout our campus community. These committees focus on various aspects of our institution's operations, including training, policy review, curriculum development, recruitment and retention, and admissions. By working collaboratively and addressing these key areas, these committees aim to foster a more inclusive and equitable environment for all individuals within our institution. Through their efforts, we strive to promote understanding, belonging, and positive cultural experiences for everyone.

Campus Climate

This committee will work to coordinate DEI training, workshops, cultural celebrations, and more that promote understanding, belonging and, a positive campus culture. The committee will also review campus policies and procedures to ensure equitable and inclusive practices. Suggestions will be made to the appropriate departments/areas.

Curriculum/Education

This committee will focus on opportunities to embed DEI principles into the curriculum. The group will work with contact for grand rounds, simulation center, and assist with suggestions for teaching material as needed.

Communication and Outreach

This committee will work with marketing officials to ensure information and updates from the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Committees at NYITCOM are distributed. Examples include a yearly report with highlights, updates to printed and web material related to DEI in NYITCOM.

Faculty/Staff Recruitment and Retention.

This committee will focus on faculty development opportunities related to DEI and other opportunities to recruit, support, and retain faculty and staff, with attention to marginalized groups.

Admissions

This committee will focus on DEI in the admissions process and student recruitment and retention
