Through the Lens Initiative - Rules and Guidelines Segment 3 Winners Announced

The NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine’s new Through the Lens Initiative (TTLI) strives to document creatively, visualize, memorialize, empower, and invite community members to thoughtfully recognize what is around us – what we as a community interact with and touch in our everyday lives. This new photographic initiative directly encompass the new student chosen NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine motto, “Hands, Minds, and Hearts.” 
 
The community of NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine is exceptionally talented and innovative.  Our new initiative will draw on this unique talent base - to create a photographic gallery, uniquely identified as us!
 
TTLI is looking for any type of original photography that creatively connects with the NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine. From macro to micro and anything in-between; in any color scheme -black and white, or inclusive of the brightest colors.
 
The initial rollout of the Through the Lens Initiative will incorporate four quarterly segments, each targeting a specific theme/concept that relates to the College motto. The segments are:
 
1.     New Perspectives - Segment Completed- Winning photos are now on display. View Winners!
 
2.      Hands and Touch –Segment Completed- The winners were announced on Friday, November 1, 2013, and the winning photos are now on display.  View Winners!
 
3.      Minds; Thinking Further–Segment Completed - Winners were announced March 10, 2014    View Winners!
 
4.      Hearts; Emotions and Reflection - Open Feb. 14 - March 31, 2014
 
* Notifications will be sent as each new segment opens for submissions. Only submissions for the active segment will be accepted.
 
Segment Four – Hearts; Emotions' & Reflections:
 
  • Accepting photo submissions from February 24 – March 31, 2014. 
     
  • This segment is opened to all students, faculty, and staff
     
  • All are enthusiastically invited to submit their original photography. Have fun as you “create and relate” your photography, Through the Lens, to our College and the segment theme.
 A panel of judges comprised of NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine students, faculty, and administrators, will review and chose the top photo submissions. Award prizes will be issued to the top three submissions for this segment. In addition, winning photo submissions will be prominently displayed in the buildings of NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine. 
 
Judging Criteria:
  • Photos will be judged on criteria including: creativity, subject matter, relationship to the college and the specific segment theme, overall impact, and visual appeal.
     
  • When submitting a photo, please include the name of your photograph (if applicable) and a brief statement (1 or 2 sentences) describing how the photo relates to the College and the segment theme.
     
  • To encourage creativity, the judging panel may choose to consider a photo that is not directly related to the College of Osteopathic Medicine, but is still related to the segment theme.  
     
  • If a photo submission was not previously chosen as a winning photo, and is deemed appropriate for a future theme, at the discretion of the committee co-chairs, the photo         may be entered for consideration in future segments of Through the Lens.
 
Photo Awards:
  • Each ‘segment’ will award a first place, second place, and third place photo submission.
     
  • The winning photographs will be prominently displayed in our campus buildings. Displayed photos will be changed as each new segment opens.  
     
  • Awards of $75.00 for 1st place, $50.00 for 2nd place, and $25.00 for 3rd place, along with additional surprise items, will be issued to our photography winners.
 
Submission Guidelines:

  • SEGMENT – 4:  Opened to all students, faculty, and staff. 
     
  • REQUIRED RELEASE FORMS: To be considered, each photo submission requires a fully executed Release Form from the photographer, and also from any individual(s) pictured in the photo. Please note, a physical signature is required on all Release Forms (digital signatures are not acceptable). If you plan to email your submission, completed Release Forms can be scanned, or photographed, and emailed with your photography. 
 
·        Use your LAST NAME as the computer file name. (Example: John Doe sends a photo - File Names:  Doe.jpg and DoeRelease.pdf)
 
·        SENDING PHOTOS:  Send your photo submissions and required Release Forms via email to throughthelens@nyit.edu, or by interoffice or regular mail, to either of the project co-chairs: Susan Klein, Assistant Director, Student Affairs, Serota Building, Room 210, or To Shan Li, D.O., Assistant Professor, OMM, Serota Building, Room 136. 
 
·        In your email, or correspondence, please remember to include a brief description (1 or two sentences) of how your photo relates to the College, or the specific segment concept. If you have named your photo, please provide this information.
 
·        Minimum Photo Requirements: Photo should be uncompressed, 150 DPI Resolution, and a minimum of 1400 x 2000 Pixels. High Quality JPEG or TIF, PNG, or Acrobat PDF files are acceptable. NO GIF, PSD, or AI files can be submitted.
