Email and Electronic Document Retention
NYIT retains email and attachments in inboxes, folders, and outboxes on its centralized email servers for 15 months after emails have been received or sent. In your Outlook email account, any email dated 456 days prior to the current date will be automatically deleted. If you wish to retain an email document, store in your home directory (Z:).
All faculty and staff have a personal drive (Z: = user home directory) on NYIT’s servers. Documents can also be backed up on Department Share directories (X:). Both drives are backed up regularly.
To access these network directories on your computer, go to "My Computer" and click on the (Z:) or (X:). Individual users and department/unit managers are responsible for reviewing the content of these directories and cleaning them out as required by NYIT's document retention policies.
