Planned Addition and Renovation of Student Facilities

February 5, 2018

As I mentioned to faculty on January 25, we all are enthusiastic about establishing a new culture and renewed energy and optimism about NYIT’s future.

Since coming to this institute, the concerns I have heard from the NYIT community include the lack of adequate social and activity spaces for students and the need for more modern, technology-infused areas to study and collaborate. These are all observations I agree with, and to this end, I have asked Len Aubrey, vice president for finance and operations, to take an active leadership role in planning such facilities improvements at our New York City and Long Island campuses. These critical projects will help us set investment priorities for the next decade that are consistent with NYIT’s new strategic direction.

We hope to commence work soon on our new and substantially renovated student facilities in Long Island. For the New York City campus, the process will take longer simply because we are located in a very dense, high-cost neighborhood. In addition, we will continue with plans to renovate floors in existing buildings.

Len has organized a project steering committee consisting of senior management, deans, and student affairs leadership to guide the planning process and make final recommendations. A finance and operations project management team will support the planning process. I also asked Len to solicit student, faculty, and staff feedback during the planning process, which will take place this semester. Stay tuned for further updates on how this will be accomplished.

I look forward to sharing more news in the months ahead. Working together with a shared strategic vision, I’m sure we will significantly enhance NYIT’s reputation as we each take pride in contributing to our collective success.

Regards,

Hank Foley, Ph.D.
President, NYIT
