CPI Day
In August 2018 New York Institute of Technology held its first "CPI Day," formally replacing the traditional Assessment Day. Sponsored by the Office of Research, Assessment and Decision Support and programmed by members of the CPI Committee, this event was attended by 360 faculty and staff. It was used to introduce the new Continuous Program Improvement (CPI) process at New York Tech and included panel discussions about proposed CPI improvement initiatives. This event was followed by "CPI Leadership Day" in January, which entailed a CPI Committee discussion with the Academic Deans and Chairs about the status and future direction of the CPI process. Moving forward, these events will serve as a method for fostering a culture of continuous improvement at New York Tech.
CPI Day is held twice a year, on the Wednesday before the first day of the fall and spring terms. It is open to all faculty and staff at the North American campuses.
August 30, 2023: All faculty and staff were invited to CPI Day. The agenda included:
- Welcome remarks by President Hank Foley, Provost and Executive Vice President Jerry Balentine, and Associate Provost Francesca Fiore
- CPI implementation in 2022–2023
- Presentation by the Office of Institutional Effectiveness on the CPI process, structure, and progress from plan development to implementation.
- Faculty and staff shared highlights of CPI plans implemented by their respective departments and programs over the past academic year.
- Revision of MSCHE accreditation standards and guiding principles
- Presentation by the Office of Institutional Effectiveness on updates to the Fourteenth Edition of the Standards for Accreditation and Requirements of Affiliation and revision of guiding principles to include a reflection on DEI and data-/evidence-based decision making.
- Using data to support the student experience and inclusive excellence
- Presentation by Dr. Erikka Vaughn on New York Tech's strategic planning and Inclusive Excellence.
- Faculty panel discussion with Dr. Lori Hochman, Dr. Corri Wolf, and Dr. Mena Youssef about how they are using data to enhance student success.
- Initiatives coming up in AY 2023–2024: "Know Your Students" and "The Big Bold Challenge"
- Presentation by the Office of Institutional Research on the "Know Your Students" initiative, which will provide faculty with summary data about their students and empower them to adopt inclusive teaching practices.
- Presentation by Dr. Francesca Fiore on the Big Bold Challenge, which will support innovation and collaboration across our community in improving New York Tech.

January 15, 2020: On assessment day, co-chairs of CIP committee Lissi Kirkelis and Shifang Li presented the draft annual template, the examples of academic KPIs, and a new framework of continuous improvement, which was reviewed and discussed by the CIP committee in its December 5, 2019 meeting. 38 chairs and deans participated in this assessment day event had an engaged discuss about the presented materials and provided feedbacks to adding resource adequacy KPIs and further simplify the reporting template.
August 28, 2019: Provost Junius Gonzales invited all faculty and staff to attend CPI Day. President Hank Foley gave closing remarks. The objectives of CPI Day were to:
- Report to the New York Tech community about Middle States (MSCHE) visiting team's recommendations related to continuous program improvement
- Clarify CPI purpose to advance New York Tech's mission and priorities, and meet MSCHE's expectation of continuous improvement of institutional and academic effectiveness
- Clarify CPI process and identify examples of how continuous program improvement has been used to advance mission-based metrics
- Differentiate the CPI process from more traditional assessment activities
January 16, 2019: Discussion regarding the CPI purpose and its status, moving from accreditation compliance to analytic questions, inquiry-based program review, and common analytic questions and data for CPI.
August 29, 2018: Moderators shared findings from the Campus Conversations, introduced the new Continuous Program Improvement (CPI) process, held fishbowl discussions with panelists regarding improvement initiatives, and facilitated a conversation between audience members and panelists.
