Student Leadership: New York City

Are you interested in making an impact on the student experience? Become a student leader with the New York City Student Government Association (SGA) or plan campus programming and events with the Campus Programming Board (CPB). Either way, you'll make new friends, gain new skills, and make change happen at New York Tech.

Student Government Association (SGA)

New York Tech's Student Government Association (SGA) is the official voice of the student body. SGA advocates on behalf of student interests—academic, cultural, and special interest. SGA is charged with working with the college's faculty and administration to improve every facet of the student experience.

In addition to acting as a liaison with New York Tech's administration, SGA oversees the budgeting process for all recognized student organizations, and supports a variety of campus-wide events.

Purpose

The purpose of the Student Government Association shall be to respond to and resolve, to the best of its ability, those issues or concerns that are expressed by members of the currently enrolled undergraduate student body. The Student Government Association, through its elected representatives, shall be the New York Institute of Technology student organization recognized by administration as having the responsibility to act on all matters that promote the general welfare of the student body. Each campus will elect their individual governing body and shall abide the constitution of the SGA of New York Tech. The Student Government Association's primary function shall be to assist in the establishment and maintenance of conditions leading to high scholastic standards, achievement, and enriched extra-curricular activities.

Executive Board

Graduate Student Association (GSA)

The Graduate Student Association is the primary governing body representing graduate students at New York Tech, advocating for their academic success and welfare. Members of the GSA help graduate students make connections both within and beyond the New York Tech community, providing professional development opportunities and promoting interdisciplinary and relational approaches to their careers and their studies. Its members are committed to equity and equality for all graduate students, with the goal of ensuring the finest possible graduate education experience.

If you have any questions about GSA, or if you would like to get in touch with a member of the Executive Council, please email gsanyc@nyit.edu and follow the GSA on Instagram at @gsanyc_nyit.

Campus Programming Board (CPB)

As a member of the Campus Programming Board, you'll help plan and organize a calendar of large and small social events, entertainment, lectures, and service projects that bring enjoyment, inspiration, and connection to the student community.

New York Tech Leadership Development Programs

Through our BEAR (Be Engaged and Roar) Into Leadership program, New York Tech offers several leadership development programs to help students identify and develop their leadership skills, including First-Year Experience (FYE) Leadership Program, designed to help new students acclimate to New York Tech and develop key life and leadership skills. Additional programs are open to current students at all levels.

The Office of Student Life strives to create a sense of community that promotes equity, social justice, self-discovery, student achievement, and diversity through the creation and support of student-centered initiatives and activities. We accomplish this mission through the development of personal educational opportunities and training, as well as active engagement and participation in campus and community life.
