New York Tech Partners with Zscaler to Offer Students Real-World Cybersecurity Skills

March 3, 2021

New York Institute of Technology today announced a new partnership with Zscaler, a leader in cloud security. This partnership will allow students of the College of Engineering and Computing Sciences to gain real-world skills and practical experiences with secure access service edge (SASE) and zero trust best practices through courses that teach Zscaler Internet Access (ZIA) and Zscaler Private Access (ZPA) powered by the Zscaler Zero Trust Exchange.

The  COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the shift towards remote workforces by 5-10 years according to Security Magazine. This sudden change in the work paradigm has led to an increased need for skilled cybersecurity professionals. New York Tech is paving the way for this new workforce by providing a pragmatic, forward-looking curriculum. The curriculum not only covers current cybersecurity approaches but will also allow students to work towards industry-recognized certifications, including ZIA and ZPA from Zscaler.

As a key part of this partnership with Zscaler, students will be able to sign up, receive training materials, and achieve certification (ZIA and ZPA) completely free of charge. As another incentive for students to take advantage of this amazing opportunity, they may also be awarded three credits upon proof of completion of ZIA and ZPA. This will benefit students financially as well as increase their desirability in the current job market.

During certification training on ZIA and ZPA students will learn to:

  • Setup, configure, and administer an organization’s Zscaler Internet Access Deployment and Private Access Deployment
  • Maintain Traffic Forwarding and Authentication for a Zscaler Internet Access Deployment
  • Secure and ensure Best Practices on a Zscaler Private Access Deployment

“Preparing our students by providing them a career-oriented and deep technical education has always been our focus. This partnership with Zscaler equips our students with highly in-demand skillsets in cybersecurity while integrating these skillset acquisitions in their curriculum,” said Babak D. Beheshti, Ph.D., dean of the College of Engineering and Computing Sciences.

“This partnership further illustrates that by pursuing a degree at New York Tech, students will graduate career-ready and receive excellent returns on their investment,” said New York Tech President Henry C. “Hank” Foley, Ph.D.
