Throwback Thursday Photos: Robotics

September 3, 2015

Today's photo dates back to 1982 and shows a student examining a robot. NYIT's research in robotics has only grown more vast and rich since then. Here are three examples of robots used by the NYIT community for work in different fields:

Engineering: Baxter the Robot

Faculty members and students in the School of Engineering and Computing Sciences use Baxter in their research. For example, as part of NYIT's Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program, Chung Hyuk Park, Ph.D., mentored Eghosa Eke, a student from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, on the summer 2015 study "Modeling Safe Physical Human-Robot Interaction with Baxter."

Healthcare: Patient Simulation Lab

Students in the School of Health Professions and College of Osteopathic Medicine learn about caring for patients by performing team exercises on a human-like robot in a simulation lab.

Fine Arts: Robotic Arm

NYIT artists have used a 15-foot, 7-axis robotic arm to create their sculptures for an exhibition in Italy. Read more in NYIT Magazine, Vol. 12, No. 1, 2014, winter issue (PDF page 15).

Every Thursday, Social Media Strategist Brylee Kaye teams with The Box to share a retro photo for #TBT (aka Throwback Thursday), a popular hashtag campaign on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. This content is part of The Box's "60 Years in 60 Days" series in celebration of NYIT's 60th anniversary in 2015.
