Social Media User's Guide for September
September 2, 2015
No editorial calendar is complete without a list of both real and obscure holidays and celebrations. These occasions offer a fun way to connect with your audience on social media channels. Here is my list of the more scholarly (read: geek chic) milestones coming up. There are 13 ideas, plus September is National Literacy Month.
September Holidays and Celebrations
- Thursday, Sept. 3: Skyscraper Day
- Monday, Sept. 7: Labor Day
- Tuesday, Sept. 8: International Literacy Day and NYIT's first day of classes
- Sunday, Sept. 13: Programmers Day and posthumous birthdays of Milton S. Hershey and Roald Dahl
- Thursday, Sept. 17: Constitution Day
- Saturday, Sept. 19: Talk Like a Pirate Day
- Monday, Sept. 21: United Nations International Day of Peace
- Thursday, Sept. 24: F. Scott Fitzgerald's posthumous birthday
- Friday, Sept. 25: National Comic Book Day and Shel Silverstein's posthumous birthday
Choose your holidays and celebrations wisely and make sure to tie your posts back to actual content or at least find a clever way to connect the subjects to things relevant to NYIT. For example, I celebrated #WorldPhotographyDay in August with a photo of NYIT students taking a selfie in celebration of the occasion.
