NYITSnaps Goes on Tour

October 7, 2016

In early September, NYIT Social Media Strategist Brylee Kaye launched a Snapchat video series to take followers on a journey of NYIT’s iconic buildings on the Long Island and New York City campuses.

Enlisting the help of NYIT student ambassadors to narrate the tours, Kaye created a series of 10-second snaps on topics including the history and current function of the buildings. (See videos below.)

“NYIT students have the most interesting perspective on the buildings,” said Kaye. “They know the building and classroom nicknames and give our followers an authentic look at the spaces.”

The series will continue throughout the 2016–2017 school year and will be posted to NYIT’s Snapchat Story (which is similar to a newsfeed).

What makes Snapchat so enticing to students is its signature feature: posted content has an extremely short lifespan. Snaps posted privately persist for a maximum of 10 seconds, while snaps posted to a user’s public “My Story” last for 24 hours.

The nature of the disappearing content forces the content to remain fresh and puts a unique spin on a traditional content strategy—like campus tours.
