In a segment on ABC7 Eyewitness News, reporter Kristin Thorne went behind the scenes at NYIT Center for Sports Medicine to learn more about the importance of baseline testing for concussions—particularly when it comes to younger athletes. The test, recommended for anyone over the age of 12 who might have a concussion, is only $20 at the center and takes approximately 45 minutes. Associate Professor and Director of the Center for Sports Medicine Hallie Zwibel (D.O. ’11) is featured in the video and explains that with baseline test results, physicians and therapists at the center can better measure progress and provide more specific care to each patient. "Every concussion is unique," Zwibel says. "[If] your concussion just strictly involves a loss of balance, then I could have you meet with one of our rehabilitative physical therapists who focuses on vestibular therapy."
