NYITCOM Partners with Providence College and St. John’s University

New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM) launched partnerships with Providence College and St. John’s University (SJU) to provide future osteopathic physicians with new opportunities to pursue their medical education. On December 18, representatives from all three institutions gathered at NYIT de Seversky Mansion for a signing ceremony that formalized the agreements.

NYITCOM signed agreements to establish early admissions programs with both Providence College and SJU, which will allow highly qualified students from these institutions to distinguish themselves sooner in the NYITCOM admissions process. Students can enter into the program at the end of their second undergraduate year, and then apply for NYITCOM at the end of their third year with the aim of getting an early medical school interview and admissions consideration in the fall.

A second agreement with SJU creates a pathway for pre-med undergrads to obtain a bachelor’s degree from SJU and a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree from NYITCOM in seven years. Similar to New York Tech‘s B.S./D.O. degree program, the Pre-Med/Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Pathway will allow SJU pre-medical students (who meet strict GPA and MCAT score requirements) to join NYITCOM in their fourth undergraduate year. Successful completion of their first-year medical school coursework will allow students to meet the requirements for the SJU undergraduate degree.

“We see brilliant students who leave here not only with excellent training and scientific expertise but also a sense of humanism, which is a hallmark of the education that NYITCOM provides. I’m proud that we now have the opportunity to offer seamless academic pathways for students at Providence College and St. John’s University that will allow future physicians to pursue an outstanding osteopathic medical education,” said New York Institute of Technology President Hank Foley, Ph.D., who is a Providence College alumnus and member of the Providence College Board of Trustees.

The new partnerships mark the end of a successful year for NYITCOM, which also signed agreements with Johns Hopkins University and Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in early 2019. NYITCOM currently holds agreements with more than 20 institutions.
