Hospitality Majors Take High School Students Under Their Wing

April 11, 2017

The Department of Hospitality Management laid out the welcome mat for more than 300 New York City high school students at the Student Leadership Conference at the Manhattan campus.

NYIT School of Management partnered with NAF (formerly known as the National Academy Foundation) on the one-day event to help prepare high school students for their future careers in hospitality, as well as show them what to expect as a college student. NAF is a national network of education, business, and community leaders who come together to ensure that high school students are college, career, and future ready.

The program included workshop sessions, presentations on perfecting one’s résumé, tips for effective presentation skills, and how to nail a job interview. The participants also had the opportunity to spend time with NYIT students who spoke about life at the university. Topics discussed included the academic curriculum, athletics, scholarships and financial aid, internships, and experiential education opportunities.
