Bain & Company Executive Joins NYIT Board of Trustees

Roger A. Sawhney, M.D., an executive with significant corporate strategy and operations experience across the healthcare value chain, is the newest addition to the NYIT Board of Trustees. A partner and vice president of the healthcare and private equity practices at Bain & Company in New York, Sawhney heads the management consultancy’s healthcare research and development practice with a focus on medical devices, biopharmaceuticals, and healthcare private equity.

Sawhney works with clients around the world on growth and business unit strategy, organizational development, brand maximization, and operational transformation. As a member of the board, he offers a wealth of business, technology, and healthcare-related skills as well as a proven ability to lead, manage, and nurture teams to deliver robust, actionable results.  

“NYIT continues to evolve as a well-respected, technology-infused university, and we look forward to Roger’s contributions to help increase collaboration between our students and leading companies in the life sciences and healthcare arenas,” said Kevin Silva, chair of the NYIT Board of Trustees. “Furthermore, his strategic planning capabilities and skills in creating valuable new business models are impressive complements to the board and will help make NYIT an even stronger, more distinguished university.”

Prior to joining Bain & Company, Sawhney was senior vice president and head of corporate strategy for Novartis AG in Basel, Switzerland, where he was a leader in the healthcare company’s global strategy and corporate development team. He was also a partner and managing director of the healthcare practice at Boston Consulting Group in Washington, D.C.   

Sawhney noted, “I am a firm believer that the next wave of transformation in our healthcare system will involve the intelligent application of IT and data to help analyze, deliver, and ultimately improve patient outcomes. With strengths across these areas, NYIT is uniquely positioned to deliver meaningful innovation at this nexus. I am thrilled to play a role in helping to catalyze this.”

Sawhney earned a B.A. in Economics, magna cum laude, from Stanford University, and his M.D. from Harvard Medical School. He is a global charter member of TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs), a founder of two companies, an author and co-author of more than 10 publications in scientific and business journals, and a frequent speaker at major industry conferences.
