Global Dispute Resolution Competition 2022

Purpose

Global Dispute Resolution Competition provides a platform to bring global students together to analyze conflicts or disputes between states, countries, societies, and businesses with other student colleagues, and recommend negotiation strategies to resolve the conflicts.

After the case is distributed, the competition consists of three phases:

  1. Briefing students on case study (PDF)
  2. First round of presentations
  3. Final presentation of the selected teams

Eligibility

  • Each student team should consist of full-time students of a college or university in the academic year 2021-2022
  • Students from business and management and other disciplines can participate
  • There is no limit on the number of students from an institution
  • No more than FIVE students in a student team

Team Formation

Self-identified student team – Upon registering, students should mention their members along with their details.

  • One member should play the role of representative of Enridge Inc.
  • One member should play the role of representative of Environmental NGOs and Indigenous Natives
  • One member should play the role of representative of the Canada
  • One member should play the role of representative of the U.S. and Michigan
  • One member should play the role of a mediator

Rules

  • Case will be sent to all the participating teams at least one week before the virtual questions & answers session.
  • Students are advised to dress up according to the business settings while delivering presentations.
  • Each student team should make oral presentation not exceeding 20 minutes. It is very important that each team member should present. It will be followed by 10 minutes questions and answers session.
  • All the members of the team should be thoroughly prepared to answer the questions.
  • There is no limit for number of slides that can be used for the presentation. Therefore, teams should make sure that they use slides that could be presentable within 20 minutes duration.
  • Competition organizers have all the rights to reschedule the teams’ presentations, revise teams’ composition, and to modify related activities during this competition in order to successfully organize this competition.

Resources

Student teams should use their own laptops or desktops to give preliminary and final presentations through Zoom/Skype. Therefore, student teams are strongly advised to use strong internet connection before they deliver presentations.

First Round and Final Presentation

  • All student teams will present the findings of their analyses of the case on Tuesday, March 8, 2022
  • All the student teams should make sure that they address all the challenges presented in the case materials
  • It is not necessary that student teams explain the case during the preliminary and final presentations
  • At the end of each presentation during the preliminary round, members of judging panel will give comments to address for the final presentation
  • About six teams will be selected from the preliminary round, and they should work further on the comments given by the members of the judging panel
  • Final presentation has been scheduled on Tuesday, 29 March, 2022
  • Top three teams will be announced

Judging Panel

A judging panel will comprise of faculty members and/or corporate leaders who will evaluate student teams' preliminary and final presentations. The decision made by the judging panel is final, and it will not be subject to any review.

Submission

Each team should electronically submit powerpoint slides at least one day before the date of presentation to Maria Dinnano (mdinanno@nyit.edu).

Important Dates

  • Virtual Questions & Answers Session: Tuesday, February 1, 2022 (10 – 11 a.m., EST)
  • Preliminary Team Presentations: Tuesday, March 8, 2022
  • Final Team Presentations: Tuesday, 29 March, 2022
