New York State’s Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) seeks to provide the State’s public elementary and secondary school students with a safe and supportive environment free from discrimination, intimidation, taunting, harassment, and bullying on school property, a school bus and/or at a school function.
Effective December 31, 2013, all applicants for New York State teacher certification are required to complete six hours of coursework or training in this area. NYIT's School of Interdisciplinary Studies and Education is an approved provider of this coursework and will be offering a the required 6-hour workshop in the following format: 3-hour online component followed by a 3-hour face-to-face class. Participants will receive instructions to complete the 3-hour online portion approximately one week prior to the face-to-face class for which they register. The online component must be completed prior to attending the face-to-face class
NYSED Reporting Guidelines regarding DASA training: Effective as of April 2015, NYSED is no longer accepting paper certificates. Workshop participants will receive a “Verification of Completion” form at the conclusion of the workshop. This form will serve as proof of completion, and instructors have 21 days to electronically submit participants’ information to NYSED.
Our workshop is open to both NYIT and non-NYIT students.
