Building Leadership for Teachers (BLT)

Do you want to advance your career, maintain certification, or enhance your current classroom skills? New York Institute of Technology’s “Building Leadership for Teachers” (BLT) online microcredential program provides K-12 educators with a new, flexible, and less time-intensive approach to professional development.

Our BLT program will help you:

  • Keep pace with developments in teaching, learning, assessment, and technology, as well as student demographic, social, and economic changes.
  • Maintain state teaching certifications.
  • Satisfy requirements for ongoing professional learning.
  • Advance on your salary schedule.
  • Earn badges demonstrating technology and leadership knowledge and skillsets.
  • Prepare for teacher leadership positions.

Each BLT track addresses pedagogical practices, technology integration and leadership, curriculum design, professional development, student growth and development, and leadership for school improvement.

How to Enroll

  • Register as a non-matriculated student and select one of New York Tech’s four BLT tracks.
  • Complete the requirements for three of the fully-online courses designated for your selected track.
  • Upon completion of the three courses, you will receive a badge/microcredential representing the achievement of a specific set of learning experiences. Badges can be added to resumes and electronic portfolios and shared with supervisors to earn advancement and salary increases.
  • Once you have completed a BLT program, you may apply for matriculation at New York Tech, with relevant course credits applied to degree requirements.
