Vancouver Distinguished Alumni Awards Dinner

Please join us on Thursday, September 22 to honor New York Institute of Technology-Vancouver alumni accomplishments at the inaugural Distinguished Alumni Awards Dinner at the Italian Culture Centre.
A sit-down dinner will be served and all alumni attendees will receive a gift bag.
In addition to the awards ceremony, there will be a special performance by the Wild Moccasin Dancers, a dynamic dance collective that captivates their audiences through pow wow culture. This group was featured at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Opening Ceremonies.
Dress code: Business attire required (no jeans, no sneakers).

Alumni Achievement Award
Hariomsinh (Hari) Bhati (M.S. ’20)

While a student at the Vancouver campus, Bhati partnered with an artist and launched a lighting company called Umbra and Lux Studios, which remains operational today throughout British Columbia.
In addition to being an entrepreneur, Bhati worked with Envo Drive System in the development of electric mobility. The company designs in-house vehicles, tests them, and launches them on the market. He was the first employee at Envo Drive System, other than the owners, to work on electric vehicle development. During his two years at Envo, he has hired more than 20 student interns from New York Tech and has helped them to secure full-time employment.
Today, Bhati is employed at Hydroflyer and also serves as a Technical Project Manager with Watts Water Technologies. Some of the projects his has worked on during his career include: smart technology-controlled wheelchair which was donated to charity, a flexible inkjet-printed light, which is flexible and washable (his New York Tech thesis research project), the Envo electric snow kart, the Hydroflyer electric watercraft that can go up to 50kmph in water with help of hydrofoils, and Cool-PHA, which helps to increase male fertility with a smart wearable device.

Mahdi Bina (M.S. ’21)

After earning an Information Communication Technology Engineering degree, Bina attended New York Institute of Technology's Vancouver campus to earn a master’s degree in Cybersecurity.
In addition to hosting a radio series on Canada Toranj Radio, he has given talks on 23 entrepreneurs across British Colombia and shared their success stories with his community in Canada to make synergy with our society and make a better life and economy in Canada. He recorded 24 broadcasts, one of which was with more than 287K listeners and viewers in British Columbia.
He is driving part of the new horizon program for positively impacting seniors, social participation, and community development. Mahdi is a volunteer leading a 12-member team to upgrade seniors' knowledge and awareness about Scams and prevent Senior Abuse, Increase Senior’s digital literacy and threats such as scamming, motivate seniors and combat social isolation and inclusion.
