The first “Think Green: Energy, Education, and Environmental Initiatives” global forum was successfully held in Nanjing, China on April 7-9, 2010. The forum, co-hosted by New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) and Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications (NUPT), attracted many attendees including Chinese and U.S. government officials, leaders in higher education, and innovators and executives in the public and private sectors. 

Speakers included international dignitaries, among whom where Lady Barbara Thomas Judge, chairman of the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority; Dr. Yun Le, general manager for the 2010 Shanghai World Expo Project; Martin Schoenbauer, executive director of the U.S. Department of Energy in China; Zhang Xinsheng former Vice Minister of the Education Ministry of China; NYIT President Edward Guiliano; and NUPT President Yang Zhen.

Plenary 3: Carbon Sequestration and Management

Given the abundant supply of coal in China and the challenges of substantially scaling up renewable power, fossil fuels are likely to remain a significant source of electricity in this country for decades to come. To limit CO2 emissions from large point sources such as power plants, one promising option is Carbon Capture and Storage: capturing, compressing and transporting CO2 and injecting it into carefully chosen and monitored underground geological formations. This session will bring together experts from different sectors to discuss the status of technologies and efforts to safely and reliably capture and sequester CO2 underground on a scale large.

Plenary 6: Next Generation Energy Technologies

The focus of this session is on the next generation energy technologies that will be serving the needs of developed and developing nations as the entire planet combines efforts to meet the challenges of global climate change in the coming decade. Speakers will focus on advanced battery and renewable energy technologies and storage looking at both the business, technical  and economic aspects of solar (both for heating and electric generation). To put important context to the program, speakers will also discuss advances in clean coal and waste-to-energy technologies.

About NUPT

Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications (NUPT) is a key provincial university established by Jiangsu Provincial Government and Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
