DEI Series: Addressing Homelessness & Food Insecurity as Barriers to Student Success

November 9, 2021
1:00 PM – 2:00 PM

How can those facing homelessness keep a job without a home and access to healthy food, and how can they afford a home and healthy food without a job?

Students across the nation find themselves excluded from the workforce when an employer finds their address or lack of one. And hunger often precedes homelessness because when forced to decide between paying for housing or groceries, students will often choose the former.

In this interactive session, we will shed light on the distinct causes of food insecurity and homelessness, the stigma attached to these issues, and their impact on finding employment and accessing economic opportunities.

This DEI Series event is sponsored by the Bear Bytes Program and Office of Student Engagement & Development as part of the Time to Talk: Community Connections initiative.
