“But you forgot I was a seed”: Black Youth and Reckoning in 21st-Century African American Literature

November 2, 2021
1:00 PM – 2:00 PM

In response to attempts to “bury” them with negative images and imminent state violence, Black youth activists reclaim their status as “seeds,” i.e., as emerging in their collective power toward a future in which they experience safety from racism’s pervasive harm. Professor Griffiths will examine the connections between 21st-century activism and contemporary African American literature that represents Black youth as agents of justice within their own complex narratives and reparation efforts on Tuesday, November 2 from 1 - 2 p.m.

Host:

Jennifer Griffiths, Ph.D., Professor of English and Humanities
