Mission

The mission of the New York Institute of Technology Women’s Technology Council (WTC) is to support women, including students, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends, through mentorship, events, and resources to advance their careers, assume leadership positions and contribute to building an inclusive and diverse workforce.

Women’s Technology Council Inaugural Event

  • Nada Anid, Vice President, SCEA welcomed the audience to the first Women's Technology Council conference, which featured critical discussions on bridging the gender gap and resolving cross-cultural and unconscious biases.
  • New York Tech President Hank Foley, Ph.D., kicked off the event with a discussion on student diversity, pointing out that gender-diverse and ethnically diverse companies outperform their peers.
  • In a discussion moderated by New York Tech Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Junius Gonzales, panelists Nada Anid, Nadia Islam, and Howard Bell confronted the challenges faced by minority groups and women in male-dominated industries.
  • Keynote speaker Edie Weiner, President and CEO of The Future Hunters, talked about new careers and blew listeners’ minds by offering evidence of “templosion—the implosion of time.”
  • Moderator Joyce Brocaglia and panelists Shamla Naidoo, Caroline Watteeuw, and Lauren C. Anderson talked about careers in technology.
  • Serial entrepreneur and corporate board member Jonathan Dambrot advised those who want to start a business to be sure to align their goals, tolerance for risk, and sense of meaning to stay committed to their project.
  • Panel discussion on leadership in business, entrepreneurship, and lessons in getting businesses off the ground.
  • Alumna Juuhi Ahuja (M.B.A. ’92), founder and CEO of Wise Men Consultants; Dari Marder, co-founder of Creative Playground; alumna Deborah Verderame, principal and president of Verderame Cale Architecture, PLLC; and New York Tech alumnus and trustee Daniel Ferrara (D.O. ’86), M.B.A., Northeast Regional President of Alteon Health.
  • Junius J. Gonzales, M.D., M.B.A., provost and vice president of academic affairs, and Nada Anid, Ph.D., vice president for Strategic Communications and External Affairs, both from New York Tech, together with Nadia Islam, Ph.D., associate professor at NYU School of Medicine, and Howard Bell, J.D., general manager of Hobson’s Starfish.

  • A focus on “Gen Z” or “zoomers” emerged in another panel, which included Charlotte Whitmore, New York Institute of Technology junior Noshin Raisa, Davia B. Temin, Neha J. Joshi and Ceree Eberly.
  • Catherine A. Allen, founder and CEO of The Santa Fe Group and member of the New York Institute of Technology Board of Trustees, talked about mentoring in business, on boards, and in public policy.
  • Round-robin “speed mentoring” session with a group of accomplished mentors, all women, in an intense and vibrant set of interactions across the auditorium.
  • Catherine A. Allen, founder and CEO of The Santa Fe Group, together with her collaborators at Shared Assessments.
