The Bigger Picture

Freshman Casey Wagner came to New York Institute of Technology to pursue an education in architecture. She is enrolled in the five-year B.Arch. program. The Box sat down with her to learn more about her plans for her time at New York Tech and the future.

Why did you choose to study architecture?
From a young age, I knew what I wanted to do; I wanted to be a part of the bigger picture. I have always had a passion for art and architecture, so it makes sense that I would pursue a career that would utilize both of my passions and make me proud of the things I will accomplish. I have always imagined what it will be like to watch an idea become a reality, and a career in architecture will fulfill that.

Why did you choose to study at New York Tech?
I like the idea of being able to study on the Long Island campus, but also have the option to take a semester of classes in New York City. Both of the campuses are close to my home, so it also fulfills my wish to stay home for college.

What are you most looking forward to?
There are many things I am looking forward to, but I am most excited to be able to meet new people who share the same interests as myself while experiencing many new opportunities.

How do you think your New York Tech education will help prepare you for your future career?
I was very impressed by the school’s alumni network and that I am studying so close to New York City. This is a major advantage, especially when looking for a job. I feel like New York Tech will put me on the path to fulfilling my goals as an architect.
