The Installation of NYIT President Hank Foley

April 18, 2018

“I am honored, and I am humbled, and I feel quite privileged to be the fourth president of NYIT,” President Hank Foley, Ph.D., told academic, business, and civic leaders and members of the NYIT community who gathered to celebrate his official installation on April 12 in Manhattan.

“But tonight is not a celebration for me,” he went on to say. “Tonight is a celebration of us. It’s we. It’s we thinking about our common vision, our mission, and our goals for the future.”

President Foley joined NYIT on June 1, 2017, and in just 10 months has conducted large-scale “listening” tours with faculty, staff, and students and has encouraged leadership to set strategies that build excitement and passion for NYIT’s future.

“I’m thrilled that you are staying true to NYIT’s mission of offering opportunity to all those who are qualified,” said Samantha Gottlieb, a third-year student in the medical scholars program at NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM). “You are embracing what NYIT needs to move forward, and you are keeping all that is already good about this place. It’s only been 10 months for you, but I can’t wait to return as an alumna to see what you’ve accomplished in 10 years!”

Other speakers at the installation ceremony included Babak Beheshti, Ph.D., president of NYIT Academic Senate; Fred Harris (B.S. ’08, M.B.A. ’10), alumni representative; Laura Curran, Nassau County, N.Y. Executive; Kristina Johnson, Ph.D., chancellor of State University of New York System; and Edward Guiliano, Ph.D., past president of NYIT.

Kevin Silva, chair of NYIT Board of Trustees, and executive vice president and chief human resources officer at Voya Financial, presented President Foley with the seal of the university and a copy of the absolute charter as issued by the University of the State of New York Education Department.

“The board of trustees is excited about working with you to help achieve your vision of transforming NYIT into one of the best private institutions of higher education in the New York area,” Silva said.

“The goal I have set forth during my presidency is for NYIT to be among the highest-ranked institutions of higher education in the New York metropolitan area,” said Foley. “I want us to be the school of choice for students who wish to pursue professional careers, especially in healthcare, life and molecular sciences, engineering, computer and data science, architecture, and business, and we are making progress to that end.”
