Thirteen ambitious students received NYIT’s Global Exchange Scholarships to support studying abroad this summer and fall. Eleven scholarship winners will participate in NYIT-led programs in China, France, Germany, Italy, and Portugal/Spain, while two are studying abroad through NYIT affiliates AIFS (American Institute for Foreign Study) and CIS (Center for International Studies), and will travel to Greece and Italy.

The Center for Global Exchange awarded more than $20,000 in study abroad scholarships to NYIT students this year. All NYIT students who earn credit for a study abroad experience are eligible to apply for the Global Exchange Scholarship.

Scholarship winners were selected based on their application, academic achievement, financial need, and factors related to their selected study program. They come from the School of Management, the College of Arts and Science, and the School of Architecture and Design, all of which run for-credit programs with partners abroad.

Lu Zhao, a Manhattan-based student from China, spent five weeks in Paris studying Communication Arts with NYIT partner EFAP, École des Nouveaux Métiers de la Communication. She said, “Study abroad not only offers a new study environment, but it also will broaden my perspective.” Zhao’s classmate at EFAP this summer, Erica Mogavero, added, “I took advantage of my time in Paris and traveled to different countries on weekends. It was an amazing experience, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to travel the world.”

In 2016, NYIT students will have studied abroad for academic credit in 14 different programs in more than 14 countries.
