President Foley Named to Long Island Press Power List

May 21, 2021

President Hank Foley, Ph.D., was named to the Long Island Press Power List for the second consecutive year. The Power List recognizes influential leaders throughout Long Island, from education to healthcare to finance and more. Along with other honorees, he was recognized at a virtual ceremony on May 20 sponsored by the Long Island Press/Schneps Media.

Accepting the honor on video, President Foley thanked New York Tech’s deans, vice presidents, faculty, and staff for providing exceptional student experiences. “It’s humbling to be on this list with other educators who are so well known," he added. "I hope I can live up to the expectations that go with this recognition.”

President Foley joined New York Institute of Technology in 2017. Under his leadership, the university has moved up eight spots from No. 50 to No. 34 in the U.S. News & World Report 2021 rankings of top universities in the North. After jumping 130 spots last year, it also moved up another two places from No. 266 to No. 264 in the Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education rankings of nearly 800 universities nationwide.

Under President Foley’s tenure, New York Tech introduced its first Ph.D. programs as well as other in-demand programs in the areas of computational mathematics, health, architecture, exercise science, and engineering, among other fields. During the COVID-19 crisis, he guided reopening plans for New York Tech’s Long Island and New York City campuses. This included technology enhancements to all classrooms to support remote teaching and learning, outdoor seating and classrooms, and new dining options and lounge areas.

Earlier this year, President Foley was also named to the City & State New York Higher Education Power 100 list for his work to increase the university’s reputation and national standing.
