NYIT-Vancouver Celebrates Campus Expansion

November 29, 2018

On November 15, faculty, staff, students, and guests celebrated the grand opening of a new location for NYIT-Vancouver. Classrooms, a dedicated cybersecurity lab, offices, and a student lounge at Broadway Tech Centre, a technology office park in Vancouver, will accommodate the 300 students pursuing a Master of Science in Information, Network, and Computer Security (M.S.-I.N.C.S.); it is British Columbia’s only cybersecurity graduate program.

“NYIT-Vancouver has experienced an unprecedented 279 percent growth in enrollment in the past two years,” said Executive Director and Campus Dean Irene Young. “We expect that growth to continue as we introduce new technology-focused master’s degrees in upcoming years in line with workforce needs and Vancouver’s growth as a center of technology excellence.”

The grand opening event was attended by more than 65 guests, including members of Vancouver’s tech community, M.S.-I.N.C.S. alumni, new neighbors at Broadway Tech Centre, and faculty and staff. Current M.S.-I.N.C.S. students led the guests on tours of the new 11,000-square-foot space.

Fred MacDonald, assistant dean of NYIT-Vancouver also addressed the attendees as well as alumnus Victor Badejo (M.S., ’17), a cybersecurity analyst at Best Buy Canada, who described the value he took from his time at NYIT-Vancouver.

NYIT President Hank Foley, Ph.D., who visited the new location earlier in the month, joined in the celebration via a video greeting.

“The future is bright for NYIT makers, doers, innovators, and inventors seeking careers in British Columbia—or for that matter, anywhere in the world,” he said. “The entire NYIT community is incredibly proud of our Vancouver campus.”

NYIT has been offering degree programs in Vancouver since 2009 and currently welcomes students from 25 countries at its Downtown Vancouver and Broadway Tech Centre locations.
