NYIT Awards Global Fellowships for 2016

NYIT students seeking new and unfamiliar educational opportunities received the latest round of Presidential Global Fellowships for their research and creative projects. The fellowships were awarded to 24 students and range from $500 to $5,000. The program supports NYIT's efforts to broaden students' perspectives and inspire their interaction with the larger world through academic and cultural experiences.
The newest fellows are preparing to embark on diverse projects. For example, NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine student Diana Cheung will participate in an outreach program in Luang Prabang, Laos. During her 2-3 week medical mission at Lao Friends Hospital for Children, she will work with a local hospital to do research on pediatric immunizations and educational services through survey data.
Senior architecture student Yvette Canales will travel to Havana, Cuba, to conduct historical, economic, social, and political research as part of her architectural thesis. She'll explore how adaptive reuse, restoration, and preservation can be applied as a new model for Havana.
Mechanical engineering student Danielle Bartholomew will join an experiential mission in Beijing and Shanghai, China. She'll immerse herself in her chosen career path as a member of the International Scholar Laureate Program, which gives students exposure to how their field is practiced in others parts of the world.
Presidential Global Fellowships are funded through a philanthropic gift to NYIT.
