News Byte: New York Tech’s Chief Architect Lends Expertise to Industry Panel

On January 19, Chief Architect and Vice President for Capital Planning and Facilities Management Suzanne Musho participated in a virtual event produced by the Commercial Observer. The “Design Changes in a Post-Pandemic World” forum explored how the COVID-19 pandemic has forced commercial real estate design professionals to rethink building designs with safety in mind.
The first panel of the day, “Building the Modern School Campus in 2021 and Beyond—How K-12 and University Campuses Will Be Forever Improved,” was moderated by Robert Banner, partner at Ingram Yuzek Gainen Carroll & Bertolotti and included Musho and colleagues from Columbia University and the University of Pennsylvania.
The group of experts discussed a range of topics, including flexible approaches in designing campus spaces as people work and study remotely; how to prepare buildings for the potential of future pandemics; and the challenge of renovating older buildings to adhere to new health safety standards
“We have had to overlap departments in buildings, and we also have added social spaces and larger convenient spaces in classroom buildings,” noted Musho. “What we are also looking forward to doing as well is making sure that all of our existing buildings … also our new buildings … [have] a forward-looking visioning plan.”
