News Byte: New York City Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Honors Provost Junius Gonzales

December 16, 2021

On December 15, Junius Gonzales, M.D., M.B.A., provost and vice president for academic affairs, was honored at the New York City Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s (NYCHCC) 16th Annual Hispanic Business Award Banquet and Scholarship Ceremony. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the event was held virtually.

The NYCHCC’s annual awards program honors successful individuals who have proven their commitment to upholding the integrity of the communities it serves. This year’s honorees were recognized for their commitment to helping the Hispanic community overcome the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as for advocating for economic development, creating vital partnerships, and working tirelessly to give the community hope.

Gonzales was presented with the 2021 Excellence in Education award in recognition of his leadership in higher education and his efforts in spearheading programs that support student success and graduation, including those in the Latinx community.

“This award belongs to students and their families. It’s been quite an amazing journey for me, and I want to say that early on when I went to university, I realized the importance of equality of opportunity,” he said. “At the New York Institute of Technology, I certainly want to thank all of my colleagues who help in the quest for student success. Our motto is ‘Students First,’ and we stand by that.”

New York Institute of Technology is a member of the New York City Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
