News Brief: Medical Student Delivers His Own Son

March 4, 2019

Duncan Tillack, a third-year medical student at NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine at Arkansas State University, performed his first rotation last fall at Willow Creek Women’s Hospital under Daniel Reiter, D.O. Tillack’s wife, Alex was pregnant and soon began to see Reiter for her prenatal visits. Reiter promised Duncan that if all went well with the pregnancy, he’d allow Duncan to perform the delivery of his own son. Chance David Tillack was born Sunday, February 24, and his proud father was the first to welcome the seven-pound, seven-ounce boy into the world thanks to that promise from Reiter. While Duncan assisted with several deliveries during his clerkship, he hadn’t previously performed one on his own. He called it one of the most amazing experiences of his life and one he doubts he’ll ever top.
